FCEI AFRICA 2017
On behalf of Anwesha Kolkata, Ms. Snigdha
Sarkar and Ms. Ankita Dewanji participated in the conference - Family Centred
Early Intervention (FCEI) in Johannesburg, South Africa on 28-30 June, 2017.
“Creative strategies, programmes and innovations, facilitating the practical
implementation and practice of Family Centred Early Intervention, in the
Developing World” was the theme for FCEI: Africa & Developing World
Contexts conference.
On 28th June, the pre conference day, six
workshops were organised on different issues including safeguarding and safety
of children who are deaf and hard of hearing, Role of Deaf and hard of Hearing
Adults in FCEI, Importance of Early Literacy through innovative assessment,
International Best Practice etc.
The next day, on the first day of the
Conference, Ms. Sarkar delivered a speech on “The Power of parent Leadership –
A Tale from India”. It was extraordinarily provocative and engaged audience
members from all corners and instantly got appreciation from the country
representatives. The conference was opened by the President Gallaudet
University who shared her knowledge and insights with the audience particularly
emphasising on language development in little deaf children saying, “Language
is food for the brain”.
The conference ended on 30th June 2017. Many
interesting issues were discussed in the sessions that focused on ideas,
practices, and methodologies along with active ways to make a difference in the
life of deaf & hard of hearing children. It was a joyous learning
experience for the members of Anwesha Kolkata.
