Report

International Week of the Deaf (IWDP) and Anweshan 2022

International Week of Deaf People (IWDP) is an initiative of the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) and is celebrated annually through various activities by Deaf communities all around the world during the last full week of September. It was first celebrated in September 1958 and has since evolved into a global movement of deaf unity and concerted advocacy to raise awareness of the issues deaf people face in their everyday lives. This year the theme of IWDP is "Building Inclusive Communities for All!" It started on 19th September and ended on 25th September 2022.

Purpose: The purpose of Deaf Awareness Week is to increase public awareness of deaf issues, people, and culture. Activities and events throughout Deaf Awareness Week encourage individuals to come together as a community for both awareness events and celebrations.

Anweshan 2022: Anwesha Kolkata organises an annual awareness programme called "Anweshan" around this time of the year because this is a time when across the world efforts are made specifically to raise awareness on deafness, its challenges, and its potential. Due to the COVID pandemic situation, the last two years of the Anweshan programme were conducted virtually. This year, Anwesha Kolkata organised the following programmes at different venues.
