Pratidhwani W.B's Family Day 2017-2018

“FAMILY DAY” 

"Family Day" was celebrated with great enthusiasm by “Pratidhwani WB” - a state level federation of parents associations of children and persons with deafness on 16^th December, Saturday, 2017 at Bishop’s College, Kolkata.  About 315 people across 9 districts of West Bengal (Bankura, Jalpaiguri, Howrah, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Midnapore, Hooghly, Kolkata etc.) actively participated. There were nearly 160 children and young adults with deafness, their siblings and friends. The other part of the group was their parents, family members, teachers, friends and well wishers.

In the first session, various programmes like sit and draw, sports and sharing of experiences by parents, young role models and guests took place. Post lunch attractions were magic show, mime, band police performance and group dance by all deaf children & young adults.

The entire programme was supported by Savlon (ITC Group), Arambagh and Bigbazaar.

We all gathered in the college premise at 10.00 a.m. sharp. Post completion of the registration formality and breakfast, we moved to the adjacent playground for the inauguration programme. The programme was started with March past accompanying police band which created a wonderful momentum. Then, the programme was inaugurated by lighting diyas in a flower filled water container by a child and parent from every group followed by a member from the Police band and present eminent guests.

Around 11:30 A.M, the guests and parents were requested to take their seats in a well decorated class room in the vicinity of the playground. The programme was started with presentation on Pratidhwani WB and its ongoing activities by Ms. Snigdha Sarkar, Secretary, Pratidhwani. Then four young adults with deafness shared their experiences and the audiences mainly parents of deaf children and young adults from various districts were quite enthused and probably got a ray of hope while looking at the confidence level of the young deaf persons to deal with life. Not only that, the parents also came forward and shared their view points to continue the process of the betterment of the deaf children and young persons. Ms. Nilanjana Mondal from Prayas, Howrah recited a poem on Pratidhwani followed by a brief video presentation of Savlon on hygiene and usefulness of handwash. Ms. Kuhu Das, Director of Association of Women with Disabilities, herself a person with locomotor disability, spoke of her personal experiences and her experiences of working with women with disabilities and Ms Aditi Basu from Anjali spoke about issues of persons with psycho social disabilities. Ms Snigdha Sarkar appreciated guests’ deliberations and highlighted that as parents of deaf children and persons our thoughts tend to move around deafness alone but there are people with other disabilities and they too have to struggle and we must remember that while we work for our children we must work in solidarity with others so as to make it an inclusive journey. Mr Dilip Banerjee, the last speaker, also a guest from last year emphasised that he knew from his experiences that mobilising parents from across the state was not easy and he highly appreciated the concept of a Family Day. The strength of the society lies in the family and it was important for families to come under a platform to feel the strength of togetherness and solidarity.

At the same time, a sit and draw event was organized where all the children took part spontaneously. While the young children took part in sit and draw, resource person and actor Mr. Avijit Ghosh prepared older children with presentation for the afternoon programme. All sports related things were timely set up and the equipment was arranged by the sports team under the guidance of our parent members. All games were conducted aptly and every one of us enjoyed. After the sports activity; we came back to the dining hall where delicious lunch was served at 2.00 p.m.

The next part of the programme started with magic show after lunch and everyone enjoyed the tricks of the magician Mr. S. Guha. The Police Band presented a beautiful show for the children after the magic show. The children immensely enjoyed both the programmes. The next attraction of the day was mime show by two deaf adults from SILENCE. All children and young adults beautifully performed dances to the tune of popular songs under the guidance Mr. Abhijit Ghosh.

The programme ended with distribution of gifts to every child and parent with gifts donated by Savlon (Savlon Hand wash liquids) as a token of love and positive gesture. It was indeed a great day for the children, young adults, their parents and family members and teachers as well, as it strengthened the bond between all of us.

Without the support and active involvement from the below mentioned parents group, the programme could not be so successful and memorable for the children and the young adults with hearing impairment. The groups are:

আজকের অণ্বেষা

সমীর  ঘটক

ঠিক বছর পাঁচেক আগে আমাদের পরিচয় হয়েছিল আরও  কয়েকজন বাবা মায়ের সাথে শ্রবণ প্রতিবন্ধকতার সমস্যা নিয়ে। কিন্তু তার আগে নিজেদের জানা সীমিত পরিসরে কন্যা কৌশানীর অসুবিধা নিয়ে চেষ্টা করা কি ভাবে তার উন্নতি সাধন করা যায়। এক দিকে পারিবারিক ও সামাজিক সচেতনার অভাব অন্য দিকে কঠিন লড়াই, এই শ্রবণ প্রতিবন্ধকতার সমস্যা থেকে মুক্তি পাওয়া। ধীরে ধীরে আমরা একে অপরের সাথে মিশতে থাকলাম আর এই সমস্যা ও তার উন্নতি নিয়ে তর্ক-বিতর্ক ও আলোচনার মাধ্যমে শম্ভুক গতিতে একটু একটু করে সামনের দিকে এগিয়ে চলার পথ প্রসারিত হতে থাকল।  এই ভাবে চলতে চলতে কখন যে আমরা আরও অন্য বাবা মায়েদের সাথে আত্ম-বিশ্বাসের বন্ধনে আবদ্ধ হয়ে গেলাম তা বুঝতে পারলাম না। কিন্তু এটা  বুঝতে পারলাম যে একা একা  থেকে যে গভীর চাপ বহন করে চলতে হচ্ছিল, তা একটু একটু করে সরতে লাগল এবং নিজেরাও অণ্বেষার একজন হয়ে গেলাম। উপলব্ধি করতে লাগলাম এতদিনের একা চলার পর সঠিক পথের সন্ধান পেলাম।  বলে নেওয়া ভালো যে অণ্বেষার সাথে যুক্ত হওয়ার আগে সন্তানের উন্নতির জন্যে যেখানে গেছি আন্তরিকতার অভাব বোধ করেছি এবং দেখেছি শ্রবণ সমস্যাযুক্ত শিশুর বাবা মাদের আক্ষরিক অর্থে শোষণ করার যে নিঃশব্দ চেষ্টা চলত, তা এখনও বিরাজমান।

যাই হোক এবার অণ্বেষা  সম্বন্ধে নিজেদের অভিজ্ঞতার দু চার কথা বলা অবশ্যই দরকার যা আমাদেরকে দৃঢ় থেকে দৃঢ়তর করেছে। এখানের কাজ শুধু কথা বলা বা কথা শেখার মধ্যে সীমিত থাকে নি।  সমাজের পাঁচটি শিশু যেভাবে নানা দিক থেকে বেড়ে ওঠে , সেই এখানে চেষ্টা নিরলস ভাবে চলছে। তার দু একটা উদাহরণ হল যে, অণ্বেষার বাচ্চারা স্বাভাবিক ভাবে ধীরে ধীরে স্কুল থেকে কলেজ, কলেজ  থেকে বিশ্ব বিদ্যালয়ে এবং কারিগরি বিভাগ যেমন ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিং ও ডিজাইনিং কলেজে সর্ব ভারতীয় ক্ষেত্রে প্রতিযোগিতার মাধ্যমে নিজেদের যোগ্যতা প্রমান করে চলেছে। এছাড়া নাচ ও আঁকায় এখানকার কিছু কিছু বাচ্চা যথেষ্ট পারদর্শী। যতদিন যাচ্ছে বাচ্চারা তাদের শারীরিক ভাষার যথেষ্ট উন্নতি করছে এবং আত্মবিশ্বাসও বেড়ে চলেছে। এই প্রক্রিয়ার মাধ্যমে অনেক বাবা মায়েদের আত্মবিশ্বাস বাড়ছে এবং তারাও বিশ্বাস ও ভরসা করতে পারছে যে শ্রবণ প্রতিবন্ধকতার সমস্যা অনেকটাই দূর করা সম্ভব।  তাই সামগ্রিক ভাবে অণ্বেষার বাচ্চাদের আরও সামনের দিকে এগিয়ে নিয়ে যাওয়া যায় তার একটা চেষ্টা চলছে। বর্তমানে অণ্বেষা শ্রবণ  প্রতিবন্ধকতাযুক্ত ছেলে মেয়েদের নিয়ে যে সমস্ত কাজ করে চলেছে তা যে কোনো অন্য প্রতিষ্ঠানের সমান না হলেও কম নয়।  কারণ অণ্বেষা ধীরে ধীরে  "বাল বিদ্যালয়ের" ধাঁচে এখনকার বাচ্চাদের শেখানো  প্রচেষ্টা চালাচ্ছে এবং  আগামী দিনে বাল বিদ্যালয় থেকে প্রশিক্ষণপ্রাপ্ত শিক্ষিকাদের দ্বারা আরও  উন্নত শিক্ষা দেওয়ার প্রক্রিয়া দেওয়া শুরু হবে।  যে উপলক্ষে এই লেখা যা অণ্বেষার স্মরণিকাতে প্রকাশিত হবে।  তা হল প্রতি বছরের ন্যায় এবছরেও বার্ষিক অনুষ্ঠান ২৪ শে  সেপ্টেম্বর ২০১১, সত্যজিৎ রায় ফিল্ম এন্ড টেলিভিশন ইনস্টিটিউটে। এই বার্ষিক অনুষ্ঠানের মূল বিষয় সামগ্রিক ভাবে শ্রবণ প্রতিবন্ধকতাযুক্ত বাচ্চাদের উন্নতির লক্ষ্যে কিছু আলোচনা, অণ্বেষার বাচ্চাদের নৃত্যানুষ্ঠান ও ছেলে মেয়েদের দ্বারা অনুষ্ঠিত একটি সামাজিক নাটক। যা কিনা সাধারণ বাচ্চাদের ক্ষেত্রেও কঠিন কিন্তু সামান্য অসুবিধা সত্ত্বেও অণ্বেষার বাচ্চারা তা করতে সক্ষম। এটাও অণ্বেষার সাফল্যের উল্লেখযোগ্য দিক।  অণ্বেষা  শুধু নিজেদের মধ্যে সীমাবদ্ধ থাকে নি।  সমাজের আরও  প্রতিবন্ধকতাযুক্ত মানুষ খুঁজে বের করার চেষ্টা চালাচ্ছে এবং সঠিক পথ নির্দেশ করার চেষ্টা করছে। যাতে তাদের কিছুটা উন্নতি হয়।  অবশ্যই অণ্বেষার এই প্রচেষ্টা সামাজিক দায়বদ্ধতা থেকেই করছে।  আরেকটি উল্লেখযোগ্য অনুষ্ঠান মানসিক অনগ্রসরতা সম্পন্ন ছেলে মেয়েদের নৃত্যানুষ্ঠান "চিত্রাঙ্গদা"।

দীর্ঘ্ এই পথ চলতে গিয়ে নিজে একটা কঠিন উপলব্ধি করছি যে অনেক বাবা মা তাদের প্রতিবন্ধকতাযুক্ত বাচ্চাদের  সঠিক ভাবে পরিচালনার ক্ষেত্রে নানান সমস্যায় ভুগছে, যেমন সচেতনার অভাব, সামাজিক পরিবেশ ও আর্থিক অবস্থা।  আগামী দিনে অণ্বেষা তার সীমিত ক্ষমতার মধ্যে ঐ  সমস্ত বাবা মায়ের সঠিক পথ নির্দেশ যথোপযুক্ত প্রয়াস নেবে।

পরিশেষে, অভিজ্ঞতার আরও  কয়েকটা কথা না বললে তা অসম্পূর্ণ থেকে যায় তা হল, অণ্বেষার সদস্য ও সদস্যারা তাদের নিজ নিজ ক্ষমতা অনুযায়ী আন্তরিকতার সাথে ও নিঃস্বার্থ ভাবে কাজ করে চলেছেন যা সত্যি প্রশংসার যোগ্য। কিন্তু এরই  মধ্যে কারও ভূমিকা বা অংশ গ্রহণকে ছোট না করে যাদের নাম উল্লেখ না করলে আজকের অণ্বেষা - অণ্বেষা  হয়ে উঠতে পারত  কিনা তা বিতর্ক চলতে পারে, তারা হলেন- স্নিগ্ধা  সরকার, যিনি সামনের সারিতে দাঁড়িয়ে প্রকৃত দলনেত্রীর ভূমিকা পালন করে চলেছেন এবং যোগ্য সহযোগিতা দিয়ে চলেছেন সোমা ঘোষ ও সুস্মিতা দাস।  হয়তো আমার এই লেখার মাধ্যমে কারো মনে কোনো সংশয় দেখা দিতে পারে। কিন্তু মনের ভাব প্রকাশ করতে গিয়ে যা উপলব্ধি করেছি তা নিঃসঙ্কোচে  লিখতে দ্বিধা বোধ করি নি।  সব শেষে অণ্বেষার আরও উন্নতি সমাজের বিশেষ অসুবিধা সম্পন্ন মানুষের কাছে সমস্যা সমাধানে আলোর দিশারী হয়ে পৌঁছবে এই কামনা করি।

Debopriya Ghosh

I am Debopriya Ghosh, daughter of Mr. Debshis Ghosh and Mrs. Soma Ghosh. I am deaf but I am not dumb. I graduated in Animation Film Design from National Institute of Design at Ahmedabad. Now I’m a Visualizer, Animator and 3D product designer.

Now I like to share my past with you how I crossed a lot of hurdles with the help of my family, neighbours and my friends. I was born in May 1992. My parents did not realize that I could not hear anything. After six months, my mother began to doubt but father did not believe that.

My parents got to know about my hearing impairment, when I was three and half years old. So we met Mr. Babul Bose who works with children with hearing impairment for their development of language and speech. There I had a lot of practice on speech and language till class V. Mrs Ratna was my tutor, she also taught everything in a very easy way. She passed away when I was in class four, on Independence Day.

At class VII, I moved from B.D Memorial Institute to G.S.S Girls’ School. I was surprised that teachers were wonderful there. They supported me and made me more confident. My friends also supported and respected me very much and my tutors Lipika Ma’am and Paromita Ma’am helped me a lot. Piu aunty, my tutor and my mother’s friend, helped me particularly in learning English, that time I was a very quiet girl.

One of my friends at Anwesha made me speak out and helped me become independent. From class VII, I slowly started going for my tuitions by myself, I started going to other places also. Anwesha is a non government organization and it was established by mothers in 2004. I was very comfortable to share with them and they helped in solving our problems.

I joined a camp in Darjeeling for five days in 2006. I learnt a lot of things there and had fun. I passed 10^th board examination in 2009 and took admission in Ashok Hall Girls’ High School as G.S.S Girls school was up to 10^th class only. In Ashok Hall I received respect encouragement. I passed 12^th board examination in 2011.

I tried few colleges for admission i.e. N.I.D, M.I.D, Sristhi, Symbiosis etc. All of them except M.I.D called me for interview, I was really surprised. First interview was in N.I.D. I felt bold to speak out and explained them what I have learnt and what my passion were. Finally I got through to N.I.D college. The Principal ma’am at Ashok Hall was so happy that she gifted me one iPad.

I always remember my family, friends and also each and every member of Anwesha. My parents always helped me and struggled with my hurdles. I realized that without hurdles nothing will change in the world. Each and every hurdle made me stronger and more confident to overcome.

After I graduated, luckily I got a job offer from Ogilvy and Mather. My boss and leaders noticed my passion when I was working there earlier as an intern. I got the special jury award for remarkable achievement in creative field. I’m the recipient of Ogilvy Hero Awards 2017.

Two years have passed; I learned a lot of things, so now I’m pretty confident to go to my next step. I am thinking of studying masters abroad.

আমার ডোডো

সেদিন ছিল বিশ্বকর্মা পূজো। চারদিকে পুজোর আয়োজন চলছিল। সকাল ৯টা ১৫ মিনিটে  আমার কোলে আমার দ্বিতীয় সন্তান ডোডো এলো।  সেকি আনন্দের দিন।  সবাই নার্সিংহোমে ভিড় করেছে , ডোডোকে দেখার জন্যে। ডোডোর দিদি বোনকে পেয়ে আপ্লুত। আস্তে আস্তে ডোডো বড়ো  হচ্ছে, একদিন আমার মা বললেন ডোডো মনে হচ্ছে কানে শুনতে পায় না।  ডোডোর বাবা সেই কথা কিছুতেই বিশ্বাস করতে চাইছিলেন না।  আমি ডাক্তারের কাছে গিয়ে জানতে পারলাম ডোডো সত্যি কানে শুনতে পাই না।  সেদিন আমার মাথার উপর আকাশ ভেঙে পড়ল। তারপর শুরু হলো আমার যুদ্ধ।  চারদিকে ঘোরাঘুরি , আজ এখানে কাল ওখানে , জীবনে নেমে এলো সীমাহীন নীরবতা।  এই নীরবতাকে জয় করল অণ্বেষা  নামে  পিতা  মাতাদের সংগঠন।  এই অণ্বেষা আমায় কি দিয়েছে সেটা ভাষায় প্রকাশ করা যায় না।  এই অণ্বেষা আমায় সাহস জুগিয়েছে।  একটা কথা না বলে পারছিনা অণ্বেষা  আমাকেও চলার পথ দেখিয়েছে।  আমি অণ্বেষার সহযোগিতায় ডোডো কে অনেক দূর এগিয়ে নিয়ে যেতে পেরেছি। 

আরেকটা বিশেষ কথা, ডোডোর কানে শোনার অসুবিধার পাশাপাশি আচরণগত কিছু সমস্যাও আছে সেটা স্নিগ্ধাদিই আমাকে বলেন। সেটার ব্যবস্থাও অণ্বেষায়  হচ্ছে।  এছাড়া প্রয়োজনে অন্যান্য জায়গাতেও আমি ডোডোকে  নিয়ে যাই।  অণ্বেষায় এসে আমরা যেভাবে নিজেদের ভাবের আদান প্রদান  করতে পারি, সেটা আমরা বোধ হয় অন্য কোথাও করতে পারি না।  স্নিগ্ধাদি, সোমাদি সুস্মিতা, পূবালী ও অন্যান্য সকলের সহযোগিতা ও উপদেশ অনুসারে ডোডো কে নিয়ে একটা জায়গায় পৌঁছতে পারবো।  অণ্বেষায় ল্যাঙ্গুয়েজ  ক্লাস ও স্পিচ থেরাপি , গ্রূমিং ক্লাস, কাউন্সেলিং ইত্যাদি কর্মসূচীর  দ্বারা অণ্বেষা  প্রতিবন্ধকতাযুক্ত শিশুদের সফলভাবে বড়  করে তুলছে। অণ্বেষা  আমার মতো মায়েদের পথ প্রদর্শক এবং সাহসের সাথে এগিয়ে চলার পরিচালক।  আমি গর্বিত যে আমি এই অণ্বেষার সাথে যুক্ত।

FCEI Africa 2017

FCEI AFRICA 2017

On behalf of Anwesha Kolkata, Ms. Snigdha Sarkar and Ms. Ankita Dewanji participated in the conference - Family Centred Early Intervention (FCEI) in Johannesburg, South Africa on 28-30 June, 2017. “Creative strategies, programmes and innovations, facilitating the practical implementation and practice of Family Centred Early Intervention, in the Developing World” was the theme for FCEI: Africa & Developing World Contexts conference.

On 28th June, the pre conference day, six workshops were organised on different issues including safeguarding and safety of children who are deaf and hard of hearing, Role of Deaf and hard of Hearing Adults in FCEI, Importance of Early Literacy through innovative assessment, International Best Practice etc.

The next day, on the first day of the Conference, Ms. Sarkar delivered a speech on “The Power of parent Leadership – A Tale from India”. It was extraordinarily provocative and engaged audience members from all corners and instantly got appreciation from the country representatives. The conference was opened by the President Gallaudet University who shared her knowledge and insights with the audience particularly emphasising on language development in little deaf children saying, “Language is food for the brain”.

The conference ended on 30th June 2017. Many interesting issues were discussed in the sessions that focused on ideas, practices, and methodologies along with active ways to make a difference in the life of deaf & hard of hearing children. It was a joyous learning experience for the members of Anwesha Kolkata.

“FOUNDATION DAY” was celebrated by “Pratidhwani WB” - a state level federation of parents groups of children and persons with deafness across West Bengal on 10^th May, Wednesday, 2017 at Seva Kendra Sealdah, Kolkata.  52 persons including guests and members from twelve groups participated at the programme.

We gathered in the premise at 10.30 a.m. Post completion of registration and tea, we moved to the hall to be part of the inaugural session. Ms. Susmita Das delivered welcome speech and requested the following eminent guests to come on the stage, take their seats. All of them were felicitated through bouquet presentation. The guests were: Ms. Tulika Das, SANCHAR AROD, Mr. Shibapada Chakraborty, IDEAL School for the Deaf, Ms. Kuhu Das, AWWD, Mr.Sumanta Sen Roy, Hooghly Partner. Ms. Sukanya Chatterjee, IGSSS, Mr Shibapada Chakraborty, Ideal School for the Deaf DCW, Dr. Nandini Ghosh, IDSK, Ms.Sankari Ghosh, Icchapur Deaf School and Dr. Ruma Chatterjee, SVH.

The guests, parents and a young adult started the programme by lighting the floated candles in a pot filled with water and flower petals. Thereafter, everyone present in the hall sang the eternal Tagore song “Aguner porosmoni choyaon praane” – a wonderful ambience was created before the audience.

The second part of the inaugural programme was felicitation of a parent group on the basis of their participation at the Bi- monthly meetings during 2016-17 and of an individual parent who participated most consistently at the parents training programme during the year run by Pratidhwani WB. CINI was felicitated as the best participating group and Ms. Tumpa Gharai as the best trainee parent.

After the inauguration, the main session began. Ms. Snigdha Sarkar Secretary Pratidhwani WB set the ground for the day’s discussion. She made a presentation eliciting how Pratidhwani WB came to existence as part of a project undertaken by SANCHAR and DCW that was started in 2009 and ended in 2012 and that Pratidhwani was formed on May 10, 2010. She shared the activities that were undertaken during the project and also shared Pratidhwani’s activities from January 2013 onwards. It was a brief but complete picture of Pratidhwani right from its inception.

After her presentation, she requested the guests to speak and share their insights which would benefit the federation in terms of enriching its future plans and also formulating strategies. The guests spoke by turns and many valuable suggestions were given by each of them and appreciated that self drive of Pratidhwani to work will ensure that it will sustain and go a long way. 

There was a short break for the lunch at 1.35 p.m.  for half an hour after which the session resumed.

After the panel discussion, Ms. Snigdha Sarkar requested few members from parents group to come up and share their views. Mr. Buddhadeb Halder, Egie Cholo, Mr. Sundor Ali Gazi Baruhat Sathi, Hasnabad, Mr. Laxman Ch. Mondal, Samadhan, 24 paragana (S) and Mr. Shashanka Haldar,parent from Raidighi 24 Pag(S) expressed their views.

Ms. Sarkar reiterated the key learning points during her conclusion remark. Mr.Tushar Jana, President Pratidhwani WB gave the vote of thanks and the programme closed following a group photo. Pratidhwani W.B’s team effort was praiseworthy.

Without the support and active involvement from the parents groups, the programme could not be so successful and memorable for Pratidhwani WB.

World Hearing Day 2017

World Hearing Day

Hearing loss is a major public health issue. It may affect everyone differently depending on age, suddenness of onset and a variety of other factors like life situations. Especially more and more young people are experiencing hearing problem. This is usually caused by exposure to loud sounds, noise at work or leisure activities and lack of ear care. Looking at the magnitude of hearing issue, World Health Organisation (WHO) declared 3rd March as the World Hearing Day in its International Conference on Prevention and Rehabilitation of Hearing Impairment in Beijing, China in 2007.

Like every year, Anwesha Kolkata celebrated the “World Hearing Day” on 3^rd March 2017 in order to raise awareness “Ear care and Prevention of hearing Loss” across the city. To mark the programme successful, we conducted the following activities.

2^nd March, Thursday, 2017: Anwesha Kolkata and Susruti Hearing & Speech Centre jointly organized a hearing screening camp at Baghajatin (Ward no. 102). There were good response and 42 people from the locality including children and adults participated. Dr. Shaswati Sengupta Datta - a renowned ENT specialist from Narayana Super Speciality Hospital visited our camp and saw the patients with care.

Everyone was registered at entering the camp, handed a token individually, sent for an audiometry test, met the ENT specialist in the adjacent room along with the report, counselling was done case by case and above all, the whole procedure was free of charge. We got tremendous support from Ms. Rinku Naskar, Honb’le Councillor of Ward No. 102 and the members of People’s Relief Committee (W.B). Without their support, the camp could not be organized smoothly.

3^rd March, Friday, 2017: There is a popular adage “Morning shows the day” and keeping with that sync, Anwesha Kolkata received a motivational letter from Shri Sovan Chatterjee, Mayor - Kolkata Municipal Corporation & MIC, Fire & Emergency Services, Housing and Environment, Govt. of W.B encouraging celebration of  World Hearing Day in a unique style "Educate the public through Tableau and Awareness Rally".

The Kolkata Traffic Police joined hands in extending support to the campaign by providing a tableau for creating awareness among the public on ear care and hearing health. The Anwesha Kolkata team along with hearing disabled youngsters took part in the campaign to educate the public through interactive question & answer session and giving out token gifts to participants, meeting hearing health related queries and distributing leaflets on Ear Care. We moved through various important junctions such as Esplanade, Moulali, Sealdah, Mallick Bazar, Exide Crossing, Hazra Crossing, Rashbehari, Deshapriya Park, Gariahat, Jadavpur 8B Bus Stop and Garia Crossing.

On the same day, an awareness rally was also taken out from Deshapriya Park to Gariahat Crossing to raise awareness on hearing health. The rally was flagged off at 4.30 PM by Shri V.Solomon Nesakumar, Dy. Commissioner of Police (Traffic) and Shri Soumitra Ray, a renowned singer. The rally was joined by personalities like Mr. Agindev Chatterjee, noted Film Director, Kolkata CID famed Actor Aatish Bhattacharya, Dr. Shiv Krishna Mitra from Apollo Hospital and others also actively participated in the rally.

Members from Deaf Child Worldwide (DCW), MENTAID, SVH, Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), SANCHAR AROD, Manovikas Kendra, Silence, Association of Women With Disabilities (AWWD), Women's Christian College, Muralidhar Girls College came forward to make the rally successful. There were around 250 people that took part in the rally. It was culminated with a human chain at Gariahat Crossing and a brief programme on ear care and good practices to protect hearing. All participants were given water and refreshments. The entire rally was well supported by B. K. Roy Foundation and Peerless Hospital.

4^th March, Friday, 2017: On the very next day, another hearing screening camp was jointly organized by Anwesha Kolkata with Peerless Hospital as Health Partner at Kendua Shanti Sangha, Patuli, Kolkata. 52 people including children participated in the camp and availed of the facilities free of costs like ear test, hearing check up, screening, audiometry etc throughout the day. Mr. Bappaditya Dasgupta, Hon’ble Local Councillor of ward no 101 extended all support to make the camp successful.

Members of Anwesha Kolkata were happy to have made the efforts to create awareness on ear care and hearing health on the occasion of World Hearing Day and hope to create greater awareness in subsequent years.
