World Disability Day
Anwesha Kolkata actively participated in a "Walk" organized by Disability Activists Forum (DAF) to celebrate the World Disability Day on 3 December, Saturday, 2016.
Before the commencement of the walk, a small programme was organized where the kids and young adults with disabilities have performed through dance, song and recitation of poem. Few eminent guests also spoke about the importance of celebration of World Disability Day.
Then, the walk started at 9.30 a.m. from Fountain of Joy [opposite Victoria Memorial] to Sahid Minar Ground through Chowringhee Road and end by 11.30 a.m. More than 1000 people have spontaneously participated in the walk. It included the representation from children and young adults with disabilities, parents groups, students of schools and colleges, NGOs and other civil society groups working on human rights as well as people from other sections of the society.
Anwesha Kolkata Participated in the Walk
It was a great day for us and the participants made the programme successful by creating awareness about the disability and facilitate mainstreaming of people with disabilities.
*DAF-founded in 1997, is a state level network of about 25 organisations working with and for persons with disabilities, parents associations and individual members from West Bengal.
